Tips for Traveling Abroad….

 Travel tips for all...

There’s a great travel website created by the Bureau of Consular Affairs that offers all sort of tips and information on traveling.  It can be found at  Under the section marked International Travel, listed are some quick tips to make travel easier and safer.  Here are a few of their suggestions:

Make sure your passport is valid and signed.  Also, be sure to fill in the emergency information page.

Leave copies of your itinerary and passport data page with family or friends in case of emergency.

Check your medical insurance coverage to see if the policy applies overseas.  Otherwise consider supplemental insurance.

Take precautions to avoid being a target of crime by leaving the expensive jewelry and clothing at home.  Also don’t leave bags unattended in public areas and do not accept packages from strangers.

Familiarize yourself with local conditions and laws.  When visiting a foreign country, you are subject to its laws.

Be familiar with the local currency and currency exchange rates.  Take some foreign money with you in a variety of denominations and know what the conversion is back to your home currency.

There is also a free Smart Traveler Enrollment Program that allows the State Department to better assist in an emergency.  For more information check the website mentioned above.

Always remember, in case of an emergency overseas, there are U.S. Consular personnel available 24/7.
